2. The Lustre File System
The Lustre File System (/nobackup1
)
- The second type of storage is located in
/nobackup1/[username]
. This is often refered to as “scratch” space. It is using a technology called a Lustre File System.
- Users are given 1TB of space here. If a user needs more space than the 1TB given, storage can be purchased on NESE, and they should reach out to
orcd-help-engaging@mit.edu.
- The Lustre storage system is built to manage extremely high rates of input and output (I/O) and can read and write large files increadibly faster than traditional storage like NFS, the home directory.
- Lustre should NOT be used to read and write large amounts of small files. This will be slower than a NFS storage and can bog down the Lustre filesystem as a whole.
It is important to remember that this storage is NOT backed up.
